Research at the University of Wuppertal

The University of Wuppertal conducts top international research in a wide range of fields and, in addition to its wide range of courses, offers a very diverse research landscape in the individual subjects. Both basic and applied research have their place here.

In order to bundle its strengths and to make its particular potential and achievements more visible, the University of Wuppertal has developed an interdisciplinary research and teaching profile based on six profile lines. Their themes illustrate that one of the core competencies of our university lies in the interdisciplinary integration of its research activities.

Institutionally, this special quality of a young university of 'short distances' is embodied in interdisciplinary centres and institutes. The University's Collaborative Research Centres, Research Groups, Research Training Groups and Research Associations are a further expression of its interdisciplinary expertise.

Scientific research generally requires as much freedom as possible. Nevertheless, its discoveries and findings are not purely an end in themselves, but ultimately serve society. In this respect, their transfer to the economy, social institutions, etc. is also crucial.

The University of Wuppertal is well of this responsibility, and its activities range from communicating the results of individual university projects or larger research groups to contractually agreed research collaborations.
