How can education and upbringing succeed in times of crisis? This central question will be the subject of an evening discussion on Wednesday, 5 February, to which the University of Wuppertal invites all interested parties from 7 pm in the CityKirche.

Climate change, wars, conflicts: education and training are challenged by the current crisis diagnoses and their complex constellations. At the same time, pedagogy is ascribed a central role in dealing appropriately with the prevailing crises: Education for sustainable development or democratic education are just two prominent examples of this.

"The current intensification of social crisis phenomena makes systematic reflection and critical self-assurance absolutely essential. At the University of Wuppertal, we are not only responding to this with a two-day workshop with experts, but are also seeking dialogue with urban society on the evening before. Among other things, we will be discussing the issues arising from the much-discussed multi-crisis in educational practice and looking at what interpretations and ways of dealing with it are being proposed and can be developed in the future," explains Fabian Kessl, Professor of Social Pedagogy at the University of Wuppertal, who is organising the workshop together with his colleague from Wuppertal, Dr Marie Frühauf.

Sociologist Prof. Frank Adloff (University of Hamburg) and educational scientist Prof. Juliane Engel (Goethe University Frankfurt) will enrich the discussion evening on 5 February in the Citykirche, which Kessl will host under the title "Bildung der nächsten Generation. The struggle for the future in the current crises".

The educational evening discussion is open to the public. Participation is free of charge and does not require prior registration.
