Successful start to the year: Victoria Krause is the German champion in the javelin throw. The German studies student from the university of Wuppertal won the competition last weekend with a distance of 57 metres.

"The German Championships were very special for me," reveals Victoria Krause. She managed to defend her title from the previous year after a year out of competition. She had been forced to do so due to a knee injury. The second title success in a row also marks the start of a special year for the Master's student. Her goal is to take part in this year's FISU World University Games, the Olympic Games for students, which will be held in the Rhine-Ruhr region in July. A first exclamation mark has been set.

More about the background

The winter throwing championships took place on 15 and 16 February in Halle an der Saale. The javelin throw, discus throw and hammer throw are not held indoors in winter like other athletics disciplines due to the high and long trajectory of the throwing equipment, but are also held outdoors during the indoor athletics season.
