Talk series invites dialogue with partners from Africa

The international event series "Talks with taste" is focussing on Africa in April. On two dates, guests from the University of Zambia (UNZA) will provide insights into the African education system and discuss the value of academic partnerships with their colleagues from the University of Wuppertal (BUW). The event will be held in English. Interested parties are invited to join in the discussion and exchange ideas for new cooperation projects.

23 April, 12.15 to 13.45, Church at the University (Gaußstraße 4): Sexual Diversity/Intolerance in Africa and the Historical/Current Role of the West.
Guests: Dr Mwansa Mukalula-Kalumbi and Dr Emmanuel Phiri (University of Zambia, Lusaka)

Dr Mwansa Mukalula-Kalumbi is a lecturer and consultant in the Department of Educational Administration and Head of Department for Quality Assurance at the University of Zambia. Her research interests include education policy, early childhood education, capacity building and quality assurance in education.

Dr Emmanuel Phiri works as a lecturer and consultant at the Department of Philosophy and Applied Ethics and as Assistant Dean for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Zambia. His research interests lie in the field of African cultural studies, with a particular focus on sexuality, religion and politics.

30 April, 12.15 to 13.45, Church at the University (Gaußstraße 4): Sustainable through international cooperation. - Join(t) projects with the University of Zambia in Africa.
The panel discussion will provide insights into academic life in Zambia and highlight existing activities within the framework of the university partnership between BUW and UNZA. The event will also provide space for the development of further joint projects in the areas of teaching, research and third mission.

Dr Mwansa Mukalula-Kalumbi (UNZA), Dr Emmanuel Phiri (UNZA), Patricia Mwila Sakala (Head of International Office, UNZA), Prof. Dr Maria Anna Kreienbaum (Educational Science, BUW) and Prof. Dr Peter Gust (Vice-Rector Third Mission and International Affairs, BUW) will discuss. The event will be moderated by apl. Prof. Dr. Carmen Ulrich, organiser of the event.

More background

Talks with taste is an international series of events organised by the school of humanities and cultural studies in cooperation with the church at the university. In addition to lectures, interviews and panel discussions, there will be space for encounters and networking. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
