This semester, the lecture series "Climate crisis and sustainability" will look at various aspects of global climate justice. The aim of the lecture series is not only to inform and impart knowledge, but also to encourage participants to question their own perspectives and sharpen their awareness of global connections. Promoting such a change of perspective is of central importance in the discourse on global climate justice. This is visually reflected on the new poster by a rotated world map.

The presentations cover topics ranging from environmental degradation and its consequences in the Global South, current developments in international climate negotiations to specific examples of civil society engagement and resilience. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in dialogue with renowned researchers and activists and discuss global perspectives on a fairer and more sustainable future. The series is aimed at both students and the interested public and offers a platform for discussion.

The series will kick off on 22 October at 6 pm in the Citykirche (Kirchplatz 2, 42103 Wuppertal) with a lecture by Peter Emorinken-Donatus entitled "Ecocide: Shell and the Niger Delta". Peter Emorinken-Donatus is a freelance journalist, environmental activist and winner of the taz Panter Prize 2022, among others. He has been campaigning against environmental destruction for many years, especially in the Niger Delta, where he supports the fight against environmental pollution and exploitation by international oil companies. In his lecture, he sheds light on the devastating effects of oil extraction and pollution on the local population and environment. He will also make connections to existing colonial structures and the climate crisis. Interested parties are invited to join in the discussion and ask questions after the lecture.

All events in the lecture series are free of charge and start at 6 pm on Tuesdays. Registration is not required.
