Johannes Rau Centre
Johannes Rau's extensive private library forms the centrepiece of a centre on the Freudenberg campus of the University of Wuppertal, which was made possible with state, private and university funds. The library can also be used as a reading room and conference room. An area of 256 square metres is shared by a spacious foyer with reception area and the library, divided into 10 themed niches. The collection comprises more than 2,600 literary rarities with dedications by well-known personalities from the fields of politics, theology, history, art and culture, literature and Rau's companions, among others. Two glass corridors with a total of a further 65 square metres serve as a link to the university's guest house and to the neighbouring, already existing specialist library 7 of the university library, which has created a complete catalogue especially for the private collection it has taken over. The three buildings connected in this way, with rooms that can be used in parallel, together form the Johannes Rau Centre.
