Improving processes in chemistry labs with AI tools

Felix Strieth-Kalthoff is the new Junior Professor of Digital Chemistry at the University of Wuppertal. He develops AI-supported tools that can be used to accelerate research and development processes in synthetic chemistry laboratories.

"We are looking at the question of how we need to adapt and expand existing AI algorithms in order to use them effectively in the laboratory - and how we need to adapt everyday work in the laboratory in order to use the data obtained more efficiently," explains Felix Strieth-Kalthoff. The research pursues an interdisciplinary approach at the interface between AI and laboratory practice.

The 31-year-old studied chemistry at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster, where he also completed his doctorate in 2021. He then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Toronto in Canada before moving to Wuppertal.
