MINT, how practical: 85 pupils as guests at the Bergisches Schul-Technikum

The six different courses gave young people the opportunity to familiarise themselves with new technologies and gain experience in various areas of STEM subjects - mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology. The hands-on programmes enable pupils to deepen their enthusiasm for robotics, artificial intelligence and virtual reality or, of course, to discover them in the first place. The courses also offer a low-threshold opportunity to test possible study and career prospects.
These workshops took place in co-operation with the Carl-Fuhlrott-Gymnasium
"Internet of Things (IOT) workshop", "AI workshop - designing artificial intelligence yourself", "VR - designing virtual worlds", combined course comprising "Soldering made easy - beginner soldering course" and "Tour with demonstration of the high-voltage laboratory", "Programming made easy - with mBots", "3D printing workshop"
Fortunately, those who particularly enjoyed the hands-on experience won't have to wait until their studies: many of the pupils took the opportunity to register for the regular course programme of the Bergisches Schul-Technikum, or BeST for short, which is due to start soon.
The cooperation between Wuppertal's Carl-Fuhlrott-Gymnasium and BeST has existed for many years and has already been recognised several times with the zdi seal of quality for outstanding STEM support. This is set to continue in the coming years: Carl-Fuhlrott-Gymnasium attaches great importance to promoting scientific and technical skills and regularly offers its pupils the opportunity to gain practical experience at extracurricular learning centres such as Bergische Universität.

About the zdi centre BeST
The zdi Centre BeST project has been run by the University of Wuppertal since 2008 and is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the North Rhine-Westphalia Regional Directorate of the Federal Employment Agency. The Bergisches Schul-Technikum gives committed companies in the Bergisch city-triangle the opportunity to acquire young talent as part of the project and supplements existing activities to get young people interested in scientific and technical careers at an early stage. Participation in all courses at the Bergisches Schul-Technikum is voluntary and free of charge for pupils.
