From now on, pupils in year 7 and above can register for over 30 free, extracurricular courses in the fields of maths, IT, science and technology (STEM for short). The Bergisches Schultechnikum, zdi centre BeST, has been working intensively with numerous partner companies on the new course programme over the past few weeks. The programme is now available for registration online at www.zdi-best.de. With over 30 courses in the Bergisch city-triangle at more than twelve partner locations, BeST offers in-depth career and study guidance in a practical and cross-city manner.

"The BeST courses offer pupils a great opportunity to find out what they can do and achieve with STEM subjects later on. It's about trying things out and perhaps even developing a passion for their personal future. The cooperation with numerous companies in the region - including many new ones - also offers everyone the chance to gain an insight into the world of work," says centre coordinator Sarah-Lena Debus.

New in the first half of 2025, for example, is "e-drive by Klauke: Build your own electric car". In this course, students immerse themselves in the modern world of electromobility with the Klauke company by building their own functional electric car.

Those who want to experience a familiar game in a new way can take a closer look at the "TicTacToe" course. This is offered at three different locations, one of which is being used by BeST for the first time: the Remscheid Central Library. Here, young people can build and programme TicTacToe themselves as an electronic game board. Programming also takes place in the course "SMART CAR: Programmable cars built by yourself" at the vocational college at Haspel or in "The desk robot with six axes - Step by Step" at Vorwerk Elektrowerke GmbH Co. KG.

For those who want to take a closer look at sustainability issues, the course "With Circular Design to Sustainable Products" is just right. At Circular Valley Wuppertal, they will design their own sustainable product and take an in-depth look at the topic of the circular economy.

The programme is now available for registration. It pays to be quick, as the limited places are in high demand. Everyone is welcome, regardless of school type or previous knowledge. In order to offer everyone the same opportunity, the programme is completely free and voluntary.
