Event for female founders

More women for the start-up scene: Invitation to the Female Founders SUMMIT 2024

05.06.2024|08:20 Uhr

Only around 20 per cent of start-ups in Germany are founded by women. This means that female founders are still severely underrepresented. The University of Wuppertal's annual Female Founders SUMMIT, which has been taking place since 2021, has set itself the task of raising awareness of this issue and putting female founders and their start-ups and projects in the spotlight: next time on 19 June in Building K on the Grifflenberg campus. The event starts at 11 am. Interested parties are very welcome!

The event offers the opportunity to take part in exciting workshops and to network with other (prospective) female founders.

Programme overview:

11 a.m. to 10 p.m.: The exhibition area opens at 11 a.m. and offers the opportunity to stroll around and exchange ideas with the exhibiting female founders.

10.30 am to 12 no on: "Learn to Flow" workshop: Mindfulness and self-organisation in harmony with your own start-up

1 to 2.30 p.m.: "Futurist Training" workshop: Responsible action in harmony with economic success

2 to 2.45 p.m.: "Bank or investor" workshop: Finding the right financing for your project

2.45 to 4.15 pm: Workshop "The Makings of the Perfect Pitch": Convincing with your own idea

At4.30 pm there will be an opportunity to talk to investor Dr Heike Wemhoff. Wemhoff is co-managing director of encourageventures e. V., an investor network for female founders with the aim of making the still male-dominated investor and founder landscape more diverse. She holds a doctorate in economics and is a partner in a commodities trading company and will give a first-hand account of what prospective female founders should look out for in order to convince an investor.

The highlight of the evening: start-up competition

The pitch night will start at 6 pm with a keynote speech by Milena Gilmbovski (founder of "Ein guter Verlag" and "Original Unverpackt") and a panel discussion with Minister Mona Neubaur, Prof Dr Christine Volkmann (WES project manager), Prof Dr Birgitta Wolff (rector of the University of Wuppertal) and Anne Janser (founder of WorXplorer GmbH).

Six selected start-up teams from NRW will then present themselves to a high-calibre jury consisting of investors and successful female founders. The teams will compete against each other in this competition and have four minutes to pitch their idea and business model. They then have to answer questions from the jury.

Prize money totalling 4,500 euros, sponsored by GoDaddy Germany and NRW.Bank, awaits the winners.

Women Entrepreneurs in Science

The Female Founders SUMMIT is an event organised as part of the Women Entrepreneurs in Science (WES) project. The aim of the project, which was launched in 2020, is to establish a NRW-wide network that inspires female students, scientists and alumnae to start a business and supports them in its realisation. Among other things, this resulted in various workshop and event formats that will continue to be offered. In addition, WES has developed a concept for gender-sensitive start-up counselling to support start-up advisors at NRW universities in their work. More than 32 universities in NRW have now joined the network.

The project of the Chair of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Transformation and UNESCO Chair of Entrepreneurship and Intercultural Management at the University of Wuppertal is funded with a total of 1.86 million euros as part of the "Excellence Start-up Centre.NRW" initiative and is part of the Start-up Centre of the University of Wuppertal.
