Improve communication and strengthen public image

13.11.2024|12:27 Uhr

Ronnie Nickel has been Head of Communications at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Media Technology since September. In addition to general communication tasks, he primarily wants to advertise the local degree programmes more attractively, especially for female prospective students.

"I'm really looking forward to the new position and the challenges at Freudenberg," says Ronnie Nickel. Over the past two years, he has already gained experience as a communications designer in the university communications department and worked hand in hand with the transfer and central student guidance and counselling services. As part of the team, he has already been involved in campaigns and many other projects for the University of Wuppertal.

"Here at Faculty 6, we now want to improve both external and internal communication in various ways and, above all, strengthen our public image. The focus here will of course be on student recruitment," says Nickel. A long-term goal is to make the faculty and Freudenberg as a whole more attractive to prospective students.

In the short and medium term, he will take care of the Faculty's social media presence and website, among other things, but his agenda also includes working on other communication channels and events. "Overall, I want everyone to move a little closer together again and thus also benefit from healthy, joint communication," says Nickel.

About the person

The 43-year-old family man is a home-grown talent, so to speak, because after completing his training as a design assistant, he successfully studied communication design here at the university, where he was still studying for a degree. After working in a full-service agency for large companies here in the Bergisch region and as an art director in the Ruhr area, Ronnie Nickel returned to his roots in Wuppertal in 2022.

Quote

"Young people often have no concrete idea about electrical engineering and its content, even though they use things in everyday life that would not exist without this subject. How does my mobile phone work? Where does the energy I use to charge it come from? What are the electrotechnical foundations of our modern information landscape and energy supply, CO2-neutral electromobility or systems that work with artificial intelligence? How can I develop and design components and entire systems more sustainably in this area? Ronnie Nickel already has a few ideas and we hope that with a few clever marketing strategies, our faculty may soon be able to record higher enrolment figures again."
