How does children's and young adult literature deal with topics such as war and flight - for example in the current context of the war in Ukraine? A conference at the University of Wuppertal from 28 to 30 April is dedicated to questions such as these, and interested parties are cordially invited to attend.

The international conference "Children's and Youth Literature in the Context of War and Flight. Comparative Perspectives between the 20th and 21st Centuries" will bring together literary scholars from all over the world at the end of April, who will participate either on site in Wuppertal or digitally via Zoom. Together, they will discuss various works from the 20th century as well as current literary debates on topics such as the war in Ukraine or the Rohingya exodus. Aspects of historical memory, representations of trauma and ethical questions of storytelling will be highlighted.

The lectures and discussions will be held in German, English, French and Spanish (the respective language can be found in the programme). A special highlight of the programme is the reading by writer Andrea Karimé, author of "King kommt noch", on 29 April at 11 am in the Central City Library.

All information about the programme can be found on the event website.

The conference is organised by the school of Humanities (Romance studies / general literature) at the University of Wuppertal in cooperation with the Wuppertal City Library and Peter-Hammer-Verlag.
