German and Tunisian students research random dynamics
In this workshop, German and Tunisian Master's and doctoral students can discuss stochastic methods and investigate the random dynamics of mathematical models that have applications in mathematical physics and financial mathematics. The focus is not only on stochastic modelling fitting to real dynamical phenomena, but also on the research of mathematical methods appearing in optimal strategies, e.g. to minimise energy or prices.
Prof Dr Olfa Draouil has travelled from the Arab countries as project leader on behalf of the University of Tunis "El Manar" together with three other lecturers. Draouil, who despite her young age is now one of the most internationally recognised researchers in the field of stochastic analysis, already visited the stochastics working group at the university of Wuppertal under the direction of Prof Dr Barbara Rüdiger as a doctoral student in 2014 and 2015 as part of a similar DAAD project.
Background
The current project started in the second week of October this year at the University of Tunis "El Manar", where German and Tunisian students were trained under the guidance of lecturers from both countries to present their scientific results and applications to an international audience of experts. They then had the opportunity to put their newly acquired knowledge into practice at the international conference "Stochastics in Mathematical Finance and Physics" in Hammamet the following week. Lectures are currently being held at the University of Wuppertal to impart the mathematical knowledge that the students need to tackle new research problems that the German and Arabic lecturers are developing for them during this week.
University of Wuppertal students who are interested in the workshop or would like to accompany the guests on the excursion to the Engelsmuseum on Thursday morning can contact Prof Dr Barbara Rüdiger at ruediger[at]uni-wuppertal.de.
