This week, over 40 school headmasters from the region met at the Grifflenberg campus at the invitation of the rector of Bergische Universität. The common goal: to expand thematic dialogue and intensify cooperation.

In her welcome address to the heads of upper secondary schools, Rector Prof. Dr Birgitta Wolff emphasised that the "intensification of contacts is a win-win situation for all sides": for the university, whose most important catchment area for young students is located in the region, for the schools, which benefit from the teachers trained at the University of Wuppertal. And for the young people of the region.

At seven themed tables, the school headmasters discussed with professors of educational science, didactics of technology, biology and electrical engineering as well as employees of the Bergisches Schultechnikum, the School of Education's service department and the central student guidance and counselling services. There was a lively exchange on strengthening interest in the STEM subjects, service learning in teacher training, schools as research partners and programmes for teachers and pupils. Suggestions for future cooperation were gathered at a "white table", which the Vice-Rector for Studies and Teaching, Prof. Dr Suanne Buch, summed up: "We are pleased about the open exchange and the many good ideas on how we can work together even better and look forward to the next step - the expansion of cooperation".

For further cooperation, a meeting of the newly created "Coordination of School Contacts" office with interested school headmasters was agreed in February 2025.
