NRWege ins Studium - Scholarships for international students with a refugee background

Through the NRWege ins Studium programme, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia supports international applicants with refugee experience in preparing for their studies at the University of Wuppertal.

The university offers scholarships in the form of full scholarships (934.00 EUR per month) or performance scholarships (300.00 EUR per month).

Students are eligible for a full scholarship if they have no other income up to 934 euros. If they earn less than 934 euros, there is the possibility of a partial scholarship. In the case of above-average academic performance, a performance scholarship can be awarded regardless of income (including BAföG). The maximum funding amount is €300 per month.

By applying for a scholarship under the NRWege ins Studium programme, applicants agree that their personal data may be processed as part of the programme.

  • Refugee status under residence law
  • Duration of residence in Germany less than 5 years at the time of initial sponsorship within the framework of NRWege ins Studium (NR Pathways to Studies)
  • Admission to the current degree programme on the basis of a foreign higher education entrance qualification
  • Enrolment in a degree programme at Bergische Universität in at least the 3rd semester
  • Residency in Germany
  • Good academic performance
  • From the 4th semester onwards: Expert report from a university lecturer on the personal and professional suitability of the applicant
  • Financial need

To apply, you need the following documents in electronic form, which must be uploaded to Lime Survey as a PDF:

  • Letter of motivation (max. one DIN A4 page), in which you explain your interest in studying in connection with your previous educational background and the need for support.
  • Curriculum vitae incl. educational background (in tabular form)
  • Copy of passport
  • Copy of your current residence permit
  • Current certificate of study
  • Current account statement from StudiLöwe and proof of above-average performance from the ZPA when applying for a performance scholarship
  • Certificate from the BAföG office or letter of rejection, no certificate from the University of Wuppertal according to §9 BAföG
  • Proof of financial situation (bank statements of all current accounts with the turnover of the last three months
  • Declaration of secondary employment and amount of remuneration

If applicable:

  • Proof of other financial support or state benefits
  • Copy of employment contracts, if applicable
  • From the 4th semester or subsequent application: written assessment by a university lecturer on the applicant's professional and personal suitability


Only complete applications will be considered.

 

Scholarship recipients are selected by an internal university commission on the basis of the program guidelines NRWege ins Studium.

The selection criteria are eligibility for funding according to the guidelines of the Ministerium für Kultur und Wissenschaft des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, quality of academic performance, good prognosis for successful completion of studies, proximity to the expected completion of studies, and financial need. The selection is made in a non-discriminatory manner in compliance with the principles of equal treatment.

There is no entitlement to funding. Applicants will be informed in writing about the results of the selection process.

NRWege Assumption of Costs for the Preparatory German Courses

NRWege ins Studium - Scholarships for international students with a refugee background

Through the NRWege ins Studium programme, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia supports international applicants with refugee experience in preparing for their studies at the University of Wuppertal.

There is a fee of 500 EUR per semester for attending the German preparatory course at the University Language Centre. Participants who are eligible for NRWege funding can apply to the International Office for the costs to be covered.

If the course is cancelled prematurely or the participant does not attend regularly, the International Office will cancel the cost coverage and the participant will have to pay the 500 EUR.
