International Students Team (I.S.T.)
As a student initiative, the I.S.T. provides advice and assistance to international students and supports the International Center (IC) in supporting incoming students. On the other hand, the I.S.T. is also a contact point for students who would like to spend a period abroad in the future. Most I.S.T. members have already gained their own experience abroad and can therefore support potential outgoing students. The I.S.T. thus represents a link between incoming foreign students and the student body of the University of Wuppertal and creates a lasting intercultural network.
Often you don't know exactly what to expect abroad and what challenges you might encounter. The I.S.T. offers the opportunity to meet students who have already had this experience and you can get valuable tips. You may also be lucky and an Erasmus+ student from your chosen partner university or country has just returned to the University of Wuppertal or is currently spending a semester here as an incoming student. The I.S.T. can put you in touch to exchange experiences.
If you have recently returned to the University of Wuppertal from a stay abroad and would still like to keep in touch with foreign students from all over the world, then you are welcome to become a volunteer member of the I.S.T.. You will learn more about other cultures and countries and reflect on your own values and traditions. Also, new outgoing students will certainly be happy to benefit from your experiences and be able to ask questions.
The I.S.T. helps all foreign students to get started at the University of Wuppertal and in the city of Wuppertal. In addition to general questions about everyday life in Germany, the I.S.T. also supports foreign students in dealing with the authorities or filling out official forms. After the Welcome Week organised by student admission and registration for international students, there are regular excursions to the region, events and parties during the semester.
Buddy program and language tandem
Anyone studying in Wuppertal who is interested in other cultures / international contacts and would like to brush up their foreign language skills can take part in the Buddy Programme or the Language Tandem.
The I.S.T. has a weekly regulars' table to which students from all over the world are welcome at any time: every Thursday from 19:00 in the university pub (Kneipe, ME.04)
There is also an open consultation hour every Wednesday from 12 to 2 pm in O.06.11
