Optional area Compact of the combinatorial Bachelor of Arts (two subjects)

In today's world, it is becoming increasingly important for university graduates to increase their own employability in order to position themselves optimally for the labour market. This includes not only practical experience, which can be gained through internships during your studies, but also language and intercultural skills. If students decide to do an internship abroad, all three competences can be improved and strengthened through this stay abroad.

For students of the combinatorial Bachelor of Arts programme with the aim of a Master's degree (not a teaching degree) who would like to gain an intensive insight into the professional world and at the same time gain experience abroad, the Compact Optional Area is the ideal option.

The Compact Optional Area enables students to cover the entire Optional Area (18 CP) in just one or two semesters and prepare themselves optimally for an internship abroad.

The following credits must be earned in the Compact Optional Programme:

  • preparatory language course with written exam (2 CP)
  • preparatory intercultural training with presentation (2 CP)
  • Internship abroad lasting at least 12 weeks with internship report (12 CP)
  • Final presentation in a foreign language (2 CP)

In the module overview, the Optional Area Compact corresponds to the profile "Professional specialisation" with the module numbers OPB104 and OPB105 for the work placement I and II (6 CP each), and SLI123 Linguistic and intercultural competence (6 CP). Preparations for the internship abroad are rounded off with a counselling session at the Career Service and the International Office. Students can have the individual achievements confirmed with the module sheet Optional Area Compact "Internship abroad". You can also find further information on the Optional Area Compact here.

The Language Teaching Institute of the University of Wuppertal can provide you with information on the language courses offered and on the module "SLI123 Linguistic and Intercultural Competence".

The central student guidance and counselling services regularly organise intercultural training courses to prepare students for an upcoming stay abroad.

The International Office can advise you on the best way to find an internship abroad, which funding options are available and which organisational steps - for a longer stay abroad - should be considered.
