Erasmus+ internship in Europe

Erasmus+ supports internships abroad for students who are currently enrolled in higher education institutions in programme countries for a Bachelor's, Master's or doctorate. These opportunities are also open to young graduates.

The most important facts in brief

Key facts

  • Study-related internships in other European countries (compulsory internship / voluntary internship)
  • Self-organised internship
  • Duration: 2 to max. 12 months (minimum duration: 60 days)
  • Financial support
  • Academic recognition of the completed compulsory internship abroad
  • Funding is also possible after graduation (= graduate internship)
  • Funding is available for full-time internships of at least 30 hours/week
  • Supervision by the University of Wuppertal and the host institution

Mobility grant

  • Monthly financial allowance for a stay abroad. As a rule, this does not fully cover the costs abroad. The amount of the grant is recalculated annually.
  • The amount of the grant for the 2020/21 academic year was determined nationally for the first time by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Germany's national agency for EU higher education cooperation. The Erasmus+ participating countries are divided into three groups.
  • The Erasmus+ program countries are divided into three country categories. The monthly financial grant in each category is based on the cost of living.

Erasmus+ funding at the University of Wuppertal will be provided in the academic year 2023/2024 for a maximum of 8 months (financial support) with a maximum funding period of 360 days per study period.

The Erasmus+ mobility grant will be paid to you in two instalments. You will receive 80% of the mobility grant at the beginning of your stay abroad. After submitting the required documents on time at the end (after the mobility), the remaining 20% of the mobility grant will be paid out.

  • For single-cycle degree programmes (e.g. diploma programmes), a total quota of 24 funding months applies.

Graduate internships abroad can be funded within the Erasmus+ programme. The following conditions apply:

  • Interns must be exmatriculated during the internship (the certificate of exmatriculation must be submitted as proof).
  • Graduates can only be funded if they were selected for funding by the University of Wuppertal during their final year of study.
  • The internship abroad must be carried out and completed within one year of completing the relevant study phase.
  • The duration of the internship is limited to a maximum of 12 calendar months and will be offset against the total quota of 12 months of the previous study phase (see "Multiple funding" above).

Erasmus+ Online Language Support (OLS):

  • In the Erasmus+ programme, grantees also receive access to Online Language Support (OLS) to help students improve their knowledge of the language in which they are studying or doing their internship abroad.
