Education loan from the federal government

If you are not entitled to BAföG/student finance services abroad, you can alternatively apply for the Federal Ministry of Research and Education's (BMBF) low-interest education loan for a study-related stay abroad.

This is a temporary, low-interest loan to support students who are at an advanced stage of their studies.

In contrast to BAföG/student finance services, it is granted regardless of the income or assets of the student or their parents. The educational loan is aimed at students in advanced phases of their studies up to the end of their studies and can be used to complete a semester or internship abroad.
