BUW-Individell - Targeted measures
Small investment - big impact! BUW-Individuell supports research ideas with smaller financial sums. This funding line is open to all BUW researchers in the same way and covers (almost) all research topics with the aim of increasing the national and international visibility and attractiveness of the BUW: e.g. conferences, workshops and travel expenses. Specialised coaching in preparation for interviews, further training, personnel support or the procurement of small equipment can also be applied for here.
Applications can be submitted on an ongoing basis. Please allow a lead time of four weeks before the next Commission meeting.

FAQ about BUW-Individuell
Professors, junior professors, private lecturers and postdoctoral researchers in an employment relationship at the BUW are eligible to apply for the "BUW - Individuell".
FORIS bases its evaluation criteria on the proven standards of renowned funding organisations such as the EU and the DFG. For "BUW Individual" these are the following points:
Quality of the application:
For research projects:
- Plausibility/clarity of the information on the objective, research question, methodology and expected results of the planned project
- Plausibility of the work plan and schedule
- Suitability for the intended funding programme/funder
For other scientific activities:
- Conclusive presentation of the project
- Plausible explanation of the need for this activity
- Plausible explanation of the extent to which the project can increase the BUW's national and/or international visibility and attractiveness
Appropriateness and plausible explanation of the appropriateness of the requested funding
- Specific support for the project management in the acquisition of a third-party funding for a research project with selected measures, e.g.
- External coaching and/or
- Interview training for ERC applications
- Travel allowances
- Accommodation costs for external research partners for short-term guest stays at the BUW, etc.
- Publication costs for publications of exceptional importance
- Costs for the organisation of scientific events, conferences, etc.
Material resources in the area of basic equipment and the financing of the own position at the BUW are excluded from funding. Other personnel and equipment costs can only be funded in justified exceptional cases. FORIS funds cannot be used to cover any funding gaps.
The type and amount of funding requested must be reasonable and plausible. No specific upper limit can be indicated.
Applications can be submitted on an ongoing basis in "BUW Individuell". Applications should be received four weeks before the next Commission meeting in order to be considered at the next meeting. The dates of the Commission meetings will be announced on the homepage.
The Rectorate is committed to ensuring that opportunities remain consistent throughout the year and allocates the funding budget accordingly. This means that the chances of funding remain stable throughout the year. The time of application therefore has no influence on the chances of success.
A final report (1-2 pages) will be submitted no later than six months after the end of the funding programme, describing the activities carried out and evaluating the achievement of the objectives. Alternatively, an submitted proposal to an external third party funding organisation can be handed in. The report must be submitted digitally via foris[at]uni-wuppertal.de.
