Research at the University of Wuppertal
The University of Wuppertal conducts top international research in various fields and offers a highly diverse research landscape in the individual subjects in addition to its wide range of courses. Both fundamental and application-oriented research have their place here.
In order to combine their strengths and also to put the spotlight on their specific potentials and achievements, the University of Wuppertal has developed an interdisciplinary research and teaching profile based on six profile lines. Their topics highlight that the interdisciplinary linking of its research activities is one of the core competences of our university.
At the institutional level, this special quality of a young university characterised by close cooperation is embodied by interdisciplinary centres and institutes. Another manifestation of the University of Wuppertal’s interdisciplinary competence are the collaborative research centres, research units, research training groups and research networks located there.
Academic research generally requires as much freedom as possible. At the same time, discoveries and findings are not self-serving, but ultimately benefit society at large. This means that their transfer to the economy, social institutions, etc. is of decisive importance.
The University of Wuppertal is well aware of this responsibility and the range of corresponding activities includes the communication of findings of individual university projects or larger research groups as well as contractually agreed research cooperation.
